I grew up in the small coal mining town of New Waterford, Cape Breton. June 11th is known as Davis Day. William Davis was a miner who was killed during a mining strike 90 years ago today. This date every year pays tribute to all miners who lost their lives or had worked in the Coal Mines. A song very close to my own heart and family is called My song for the Miner. Written and performed by my great uncle Fred White who was a member of the Carlton Showband.
