Music Nova Scotia and Casino, NS have partnered up to support Nova Scotia Musicians with the Artist in Residence Program. Last year was the first time this program was offered and the group The Brood took home the grand prize to help further their music careers. This year's final event was held on June 12th, 2015 in the Schooner Room, Casino, NS.
The stage, sound, lighting, family and friends, fans and industry professionals were all set for a fantastic night of music where all six artists would perform in front of a panel of judges with one winner taking up the prize of $20,000 dollars to be used to promote and advance their rising music careers.
The night opened up with first finalist, Reeny Smith, taking the stage and set to perform a number of songs. Her performance set the bar for the night making it tough for the other finalists. But all finalists came out with their best performances making it difficult for the judges to pick a winner. Artists, Shannon Quinn, Samantha Power, Kyle Mischiek, Arsoniste, and Like a Machine all performed on this big night. All different genres of music and all rising artists in their own genre. Such a great night to be a music fan. Before the winner would be announced last year's winner , The Brood, would take the stage for a performance before passing the torch.
In the end, Reeny Smith's performance would not be topped as all judges were unanimous in selecting Reeny Smith as the 2015 Artist in Residence Winner.
Although one artist took home the cash prize all the artists are winners. This is a great opportunity for the artists to showcase their talents, perform on a big stage and take some advice for industry professionals. I am sure each of the finalists will have a successful music career for many years to come. All Photos by James Bennett.
